Molecular Manufacturing

Ever since Eric Drexler published Engines of Creation in 1986, controversy has swirled around the idea of building world-changing nanodevices atom-by-atom.

If this works, it will be a fantastic way to fabricate things. But some people say it is simply too fantastic--perhaps even pure fabrication.

Chris Phoenix is a co-founder of the non-profit Center for Responsible Nanotechnology, and served as its Director of Research from 2002-2007. Chris will explore common exaggerations and misconceptions about molecular manufacturing, will touch briefly on why its proponents think it will work, and will discuss some of the implications of "real nanotech" in the next five, ten, and twenty years.

Chris will also be giving several other talks at this BIL conference.
