BIL is the quirky, populist, unconference known as the ad hoc analogue to TED. Open to the public and fully participant driven, our yearly gathering features a wild mix of technologists, scientists, artists, hackers, and those with a passion for community awareness, social entrepreneurship, and innovation. BIL emerged from a community of people who aspire to change the world for the better- everyone is on equal standing and we meet to share ideas, problems that need solving, and discoveries we are excited about with a quite diverse national and international crowd. Our attendees are our speakers and our speakers are our attendees and in true unconference style, attendees are responsible for shaping the conference itself through their participation.

يعتبر مصطلح BIL مصطلحا مألوفا لدى جمهور الشباب والمراهقين الناشطين في المجتمع المدني، خاصة في المدن الكبرى ويعني في مجمله مجتمعا عالميا من الناس الذين لديهم شغف لتبادل الأفكار. BIL تجلب المجتمعات المحلية، من خلال التظاهرات المنظمة ذاتيا عبر المنظمين والمنسقين للحد وتعمل من أجل ترسيخ قيمة التعلم التعاوني المكثف. وقد نشأت BIL لأول مرة في كاليفورنيا، كتظاهرة موازية لتظاهرة TedX، ومبدأها بسيط، مؤتمر غير رسمي يؤثثه مجموعة نشطة من الناس لهم تطلعات لتغيير العالم. هو تظاهرة مفتوحة، تقوم على التنظيم الذاتي، في أسلوب حقيقي واقعي في علاقة مباشرة مع الجمهور المتلقي، يكون الحضور فيها مسؤولين عن تشكيل المؤتمر من خلال مشاركاتهم. ويكون المتكلمون من وجوه المجتمع الوطني والدولي المتنوع. ويتراوح الحاضرون بين علماء التكنولوجيا والعلماء والفنانين

والقراصنة وأولئك الذين لديهم شغف لتبادل الأفكار والمعرفة.
