Are you speaking at BIL? Here are some questions you might have...
- What is the schedule?
- The schedule is finalized about a week before, and we cluster talks based on participant interests. For some insight into how the schedule is made, take a look at this blog posting. If you have requests, i.e. particular times or room requirements, send and e mail to HuffmanTM@gmail.com
- How long should my talk be?
- There are two formats, long and short. Long is 45 minutes, and will probably be in a smaller room. Short format is 15 minutes, and will probably be in a larger room.
- Where should I stay?
- First e-mail sent to the speakers may be found here
- Updated version of the Speaker Schedule e-mail sent to the speakers I had e-mail addresses for here.
A good talk doesn't happen by accident.
Here are some points shamelessly stolen from BarCamp.
Q. How should I prepare for my BIL presentation?
- A presentation is a lot like a conversation where the other side can hardly get a word in edgewise. Here are a few tips to help the conversation go more smoothly.
- Think about the four to seven most exciting and/or important points about the topic.
- Write the points on index cards, one point per card.
- Practice telling people about these points.
- As you practice, you will come up with interesting notes on the points. Scribble these on the card.
- Add in a card to introduce yourself.
- Add in a card to remind people to ask questions (during or at the end or both)
- Bring business cards (or something) to give people so that they can reach you.
