Where-to-Stay

Are you staying in a hotel?  Post your arrangements here so people can cluster in space.

SITE VISITS FROM LOCALS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

I am a grey-haired grandma and l live in Long Beach.

I used to live just a block away from the Guest House.

I am disturbed by the label "ghetto" about this location.

i don't know whether the accommodations are splendid or crappy.

However .... the neighborhood is NOT ghetto.

It is a working-class neighborhood with apartment houses and condo complexes.

I'm pretty sure there are no gangs or gunfire on the block where this house is.

Grafitti, maybe.

However, the exterior of the home is lovely and it is reasonable to assume that the interior is charming. as well.

About the Queen Mary, accommodations cost a LOT for very small rooms.  And it's not particularly well-located for CSULA.

I recommend looking for motels on/around Pacific Coast Hwy.

Here's a Google Maps link to hotels near CSULB: http://is.gd/ePui

Here's a Yelp search:  http://is.gd/ePuo

This Tripadvisor search is also good: www.tripadvisor.com/LocalMaps-g32648-Long_Beach-Area.html#a_reset:geo_32648:detail_32648:mw_883:mh_562:page_0:mt_h:mz_13:mc_33.779290013851394,-118.11229705810547:cat_1:currency_USD:minrate_0:maxrate_9999999:umaxrate_9999999:class_

If you are a Couchsurfer make sure you list your attendance on the BIL event page to best match you with a host.

If anyone is staying in Santa Monica, I'm happy to give up to four people a ride to and from the conference. There are probably as many hotels in Santa Monica as Long Beach, and there's the Santa Monica Pier, Palisades Park, and Third Street Promenade for interesting places within walking distance.

I just made a reservation for a room at the Pacific Inn. Looks pretty solid: pool, free breakfast, shuttle to/from airport and CSULB, and free wifi. Let me know if you'll be staying there (or would be interested in sharing the room with me).

I also went with Pacific Inn. So far only 4 have booked with the group code. With over 500 registered for BIL I am not sure where everybody is staying. I decided to cancel out of the Guesthouse Long Beach due to the tripadvisor reviews. Nobody ever did a full site visit (actually going inside and asking to see a room) as I had hoped, and I needed that based on the reviews. If you want to go there I now see Expedia has it for $72, less than our "group rate". Perhaps we should tag what hotel we are at by putting initials and a link to our page in the listing.

I'll be at the Pacific Inn, too and can shuttle people over.
