SITE VISITS FROM LOCALS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

• Pacific Inn:  http://www.pacificinn-sb.com They have blocked off 10 rooms until Jan 31 at a rate of $109.  They have breakfast, and shuttle available to LB Airport and CSULB.  Call, ask for group desk, code is "BILCONFERENCE"  -  This hotel is near the beach
• Guesthouse Long Beach: . http://www.guesthouselb.com/ -- use the code "BIL" to book your room for $79 -- $5 off regular rate.   Rate includes breakfast, and shuttle service to CSULB.  Among the closest to the venue.  We await a local site visit because www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32648-d77594-Reviews-GuestHouse_Hotel_Long_Beach-Long_Beach_California.html has a very mixed bag of reviews on it. (Note from Local: this spot is Ghetto, but if you're ok with roughing it a lot, it's your home away from home. Near a great Brazilian BBQ place and a 7-11.)
• There is a cluster of hotels to the Northwest, near the traffic circle where Highway 1 bends west, including a highly rated (tripadvisor)  Super-8
• There is a Motel 6 with poor reviews just south of CSULB.

• Queen Mary:  Note from Todd:  I grew up in Long Beach, and I always encourage people to stay at the Queen Mary.  It's a gorgeous hotel with great history.  http://www.queenmary.com/index.php?page=hotel

I am a grey-haired grandma and l live in Long Beach.  

I used to live just a block away from the Guest House.

I am disturbed by the label "ghetto" about this location.

i don't know whether the accommodations are splendid or crappy.

However .... the neighborhood is NOT ghetto.  

It is a working-class neighborhood with apartment houses and condo complexes.  

I'm pretty sure there are no gangs or gunfire on the block where this house is.

Grafitti, maybe.  

However, the exterior of the home is lovely and it is reasonable to assume that the interior is charming. as well.

About the Queen Mary, accommodations cost a LOT for very small rooms.  And it's not particularly well-located for CSULA.

I recommend looking for motels on/around Pacific Coast Hwy.
