What happens when you throw a bunch of early adopters in an unconference about new ideas?
You get BIL.
BIL is...
an open, self-organizing, emergent, arts, science, society and technology conference. Anyone can come, and anyone is able to offer a talk. Previous topics include AI, new media, open source and _________. The cost is free to attendees and is paid for by sponsors. This year, it will take place in Long Beach on February 7th and 8th but will be broadcast on the internet for free for those not able to attend.
We are currently looking for sponsors. As this is an unconference, we are open to unique ideas you may have for getting your company's name out there to our audience.
THE WHO
This year's speakers include:
- Eric Rasmussen, CEO of inSTEDD (www.instedd.org), a company that received TED Prize support in 2006
- Cameron Sinclair, founder of Architecture For Humanity (www.architectureforhumanity.org) and recipient of the TED Prize
- Whurley (http://whurley.com), Chief Architect of Open Source Strategy at BMC Software
- (anyone you deem particularly relevant to a specific sponsor)
Last year, the event was covered by:
- WIRED
- BoingBoing
- NPR
- Robert Scoble
as well as dozens of other blogs.
THE WHERE:
The 2009 BIL Conference will take place at at California State University.
(list details about facilities, especially capacity)
THE WHY:
Discussing big ideas shouldn't cost $6000 a person. We as citizens can all contribute to the benefit of mankind, and capping attendance based on class means that many valuable perspectives get excluded. BIL looks to bring people together who are motivated by progress, both in our online community and at our conference.
The first BIL was small and came together in less than one month. BIL 2009 will feature a bigger venue, more attendees, more well known speakers, and will be broadcast for the first time. We have half of our sponsors already, but if you are interested in being a part of BIL 2009, here are the sponsorship levels:
