Getting Around Long Beach
Since BILxOutside is all about getting off our butts and out and doing things, it seems like we're gonna need a page on transportation, mobility, accessibility, and the like. What other conference can you say likes "Long walks on the Beach"?

Bicycling
With its weather, topography, geography, and consciousness, Long Beach is a great place for bike rides. This LA Times article (1/26) talks about what the town is doing to support bicycling, for transportation and recreation. If we're wanting to get out and explore different things without spending a lot of time or money getting around, bikes may be the perfect medium.
Public Transit
Long Beach has a fairly extensive and quite affordable public transit system. The home page for Long Beach Transit can be found here. Be warned - the online Trip Planner is spectacularly glitchy and uncooperative; you will probably have better luck with the route maps and your own common sense. The vast majority of bus trips cost $1.10, or if you're going to be riding the bus a lot, day passes are available for $3.50 (but must be purchased in advance at the Long Beach Transit Center at 130 E. 1st St). The bright red Passport buses you'll see around town will take you around downtown Long Beach for free; they run until approximately 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, and are very convenient to where we will be convening - the B line passes right in front of the Museum of Latin American Art. To make the most of being in a coastal city, you can also ride the Aqualink or Aquabus to many of Long Beach's waterfront attractions, link the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
